In her series ‘Expression’, artist Irit Hayon creates mixed media collages to challenge social conventions such as gender, reputation,
or modern consumer culture. The inspiration for the series comes from the Dadaism movement. This movement aims to liberate art, and thereby society,
from norms that have been considered absolute truths for years. Irit takes these conventions and breaks them down into their components.
she uses collage as a base for painting, incorporating texts that refer to a different social norm in each work.
Thus, Irit exposes their absurdity while maintaining an optimistic and sometimes even humorous outlook.
Breaking down old conventions allows us to rethink the world and even rebuild it in a better and more accurate way.
